Often amongst friends (mostly straight), we stumble onto the conversation of stereotypes which leaves me explaining what is a bear. This always turns into deep diving into the different gay and bear sub-cultures within our community, so I thought I'll break this down and explain.
A BEAR is a bigger guy with a belly and most times contains a lot of body hair. Typically Bears are old from on about 30-35 years up.
A MUSCLE BEAR is a muscular hairy guy often with a belly.
A CUB is typically a younger version of a bear, they are heavier with a belly forming or formed and with or without body hair.
An OTTER is typically a slender and hairy guy and typically older than a cub.
A CHUB is an overweight or obese version of a bear. A CHUB can be either smooth or hairy.
A PANDA is a bear who is of Asian descent.
A POLAR BEAR is an older bear who's hair would be grey/white.
A WOLF is typically someone who falls between a twink and a bear or cub. Most likely a wolf would have a bit of bulk muscle on them, mostly hairy, outdoorsy and rugged.
A DADDY is an older gay man.
A TWINK is a younger skinny man with boyish looks. Typically with little to no body hair.
A CHASER is a man who is into bears.
A lesbian bear.
So as you can see the bear sub-culture is mixed and varied and no longer vanilla.
